Discuss OER and open textbooks in Hong Kong

For this session, Hong Kong education planners, administrators and academics together with OER researchers will share their views on and experiences with e-learning and examine the feasibility of using open textbooks within and outside Hong Kong. The following speakers will be present to talk on these matters:

(1)   Prof. C.M. Leung, Vice President (Technology & Development), OUHK, will present exemplary cases from around the world concerning the use of OERs, including open textbooks.
(2)   Mr Ishan Abeywardena of Wawasan Open University, Malaysia, will give a brief report on a series of research projects being conducted in various parts of the Asian Region.
(3)   Prof. Gajaraj Dhanarajan of Wawasan Open University, Malaysia, will introduce various open textbook projects in Asia and the prospects for collaboration.
(4)   Mr Kenneth Chen, Undersecretary for Education, will speak on our Government’s policy and plans for e-learning in schools and the role of OERs.
(5)   Dr Robert Fox, Deputy Director of the Centre for Information Technology in Education, University of Hong Kong, will share experience gained from an OER project at the University of Hong Kong.
(6)   Dr K.S. Yuen, Head of Educational Technology and Publishing Unit, OUHK, will introduce a proposal to establish an open textbook platform to offer quality-assured, free-of-charge e-textbooks to Hong Kong schools.
